Tally sent in a photo with her bike, Carson, named after Carson in “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” Carson loves to dress up in pink accessories. She and Carson live in St Kilda, a beach suburb of Melbourne, Australia and ride regularly along Beach Road. “Beach Road runs for 100k and attracts 14,000 cyclists each weekend so the vibe is wonderful,” she writes. She is currently in training for ‘Around the Bay in a Day’, a 212km ride, a record for both her and her bike.

‘It all started with a stem cap…’ That’s what I say when addressing my affection for pink.

“This is Kate, my itty-bitty 48cm 2005 Orbea Mitis, decked out in her pink accoutrement. Full Campagnolo (as befits any steed from the Basque region) with Speedplay Light Actions and a Fizik Arione saddle. The cockpit bears the Chris King Pretty and Strong stem cap and Deda Elementi bar tape. Bontrager bottle cages. Schwalbe Stelvios over the 38mm Campy Shamals (otherwise, black Race-lites over 24mm Ventos).

“She’s zippy fast, a blast to ride, and apparently memorable in the eyes of others who’ve remembered her from rides several months previous. Most people quickly realize she’s pinked out for breast cancer awareness, which is exactly the point (although my jersey invoking breast cancer awareness may also help). Who says men don’t like pink?

“Great web site–keep up the awesome work!!”

“Here is a photo of my with my hot pink custom IF! I’ve had her about a year now and she is wonderful! I get so many compliments on her when I’m out. It helps that my husband manages a bike shop here in CT (Cycling Concepts) so I got the hook up on all things pink!”

“This is my Pink Bike. I rode it in Tuscay, Italy on a Bike Tour. Located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It is a nice bright Pink! It also has a really good racing seat on it. It might be nice to add to somebody’s connection.”

He mentions that it is for sale if anyone is interested in it.

Royal’s bubblegum pink recumbent bicycle

Royal writes:

“I call my bike color ‘bubblegum’ … to differentiate it from just being another pink bike.

“It is a custom made recumbent lowracer LWB (long wheel base) with underseat steering. I can draft DF bikes, but they can’t draft my low-drag profile. This thing really rips! I was assisted in the design and construction by S&B Recumbents of Gardena, CA. It has a 4130 Chromo main tube … 20″ rear wheel. It uses 2 chains and an intermediate idler gear at a 1.25:1 ratio that makes me competitive with 26″ rear wheels. And I’m very competitive. (I’ve also scared a lot of 700c wheels)

“When I went to get it plasticoated … they were out of fluorescent lime green. I didn’t want to spend the extra $68 to purchase more. So, I went with ‘bubblegum’ which seems to give me good visibility in traffic.

“The foto shows me sitting on my recumbent … I don’t worry much about falling over. :)

Kjersten Lone pink bicycle

I first heard from Kjersten back in 2005, when she was 14 years old. She’s a cross country & downhill racer from Victoria B.C.

“I started racing XC here on the island at the age of 13, in the women’s beginner class, which was an open age group category. I ended up on the podium with a 3rd for the overall season. [In 2005] I wanted to race downhill so my parents said that I would have to continue to race XC to maintain my endurance & cardio. I agreed to this and this is where my pink bike comes in. My sponsor ‘Joe Warde’ owner of North Park bikes here in Victoria was able to get a great deal on a slightly used Banshee Chaparral downhill bike. My Nana & Papa agreed to buy this bike for me as a Christmas present, and my dad had a friend of his completely strip the frame down and had it custom painted pink for me !! I was taken down to the shop and Joe had it all put together for me and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“So then the season started in Feb. 05 and I was known as the girl with the ‘Pink Banshee’ I raced in every XC & DH race here in the Island series as well as a unbelievable trip to Sandpoint, Idaho for the NORBA at Schweitzer Mountain, where I raced Jr Expert XC & beginner downhill. I met the most awesome female & male pro riders who thought my Banshee was awesome , and also told me that it was great that I was racing ‘old school’ doing both XC & DH. I finished the season with a 1st place podium in XC & DH for beginner women.” Here are some more great photos from Kjersten:

“Thank you for the pink bike site! I’ve been pinkifying my bike for a couple years now. I ride a Trek 5200 that’s disguised. Here’s a pic of me with my bike right before doing a 23mph average Tour De Phoenix, my fastest ride ever! Also, there’s a shot of my pet duck on my bike. He likes attention so I can get him to pose pretty easily. I’m an amateur racer and love group rides. My favorite ride is Mt. Lemmon in Tucson AZ. Thanks to Arizona Cyclist for finding a bunch of my pink stuff. ”

“I don’t have a whole lot of detail to give for my bike as it is my first road bike purchased at the beginning of this year. At first I was hesitant about getting a pink bike (the only color option), but I’ve gotten so many compliments about it that I am now wholly embracing the pink! To top it off, I just finished my first Cinderella Ride (100k) this past Saturday on it! Go Velo Girls and go pink!”

“I found your fantastic website purely by mistake, but am so happy to see the beautiful pink bikes out there! It was mentioned in the newsletter of Road Bike Rider.

“Attached is a picture of my beloved Daccordi. It’s story?? Well, I used to be a runner, but was getting too many injuries, so I thought I should do some cross training. Went to the local bike shop, and the owner’s wife was wanting to sell. I knew absolutely nothing about bikes then. It had flat pedals and the gear shift was on the frame. But it fit me okay, so out I pedalled. when I thought I was smart enough, I changed to cleats, and on my first ride with them managed to fall off and fracture my wrist. Ended up with purple plaster to match! But I was also stupid enough to change the gear shift to the handlebars. Now I wish I hadn’t !! It would have been a bit more classic…

“Oh well.

“I now ride a Cannondale Synapse, which probably weighs half of what my Daccordi does, but I love my pink bike and would never part with it!!”
