Hi Crystal,

I’m Jay, living in Auckland, New Zealand.

Introducing my pink bike! My boyfriend and I built this bike up for me after he got into riding fixed gears. Not being crazy/balanced/fit enough, we decided on a single speed for me, with front and rear brakes intact! The bike is a mid 90’s vintage Avanti Super Sprint, with Shimano 500ex throughout, 7-speed index shifting which have obviously been stripped, along with the racing handlebars which were replaced by black risers. The original paint is pink with a lighter marbling effect throughout, which I loved from the moment I saw it – but loving leopard print too, I could help but put a little bit of that in there! I’m quite keen to get a black crankset, black seat post, pink chain, and pink grips next.

The first pic is the bike in it’s original state. The second is after we had removed the racing bars, and replaced them with risers, and the last pic is the bike as it is now! (Still unfinished, unfortunately, but getting there!) The last picture was taken at an Alley Cat race put together by the local fixed gear crew, it was an awesome night!

My boyfriend rides a lot more than I do with his fixed gear crew, but I love riding with him along the waterfront on warm nights, and just hanging out together on our bikes.
