Daniel Vitter sent this photo, and writes:

“Just picked up my fiancé’s bike from our LBS after having it ‘Pinked Out.’ She rides a 12 mile loop just about everyday in a nearby neighborhood here in Tallahassee, FL. And we ride together on the weekends on the St. Marks Trail (35 miles) and often the same loop she does during the week. I’m so glad I got her into cycling and she actually loves it (maybe not as obsessively as I do!) but she does really enjoy getting out on her bike a lot.

“I had a set of new Easton EA50 SL wheels put on, complete with the Schwalbe Stelvio pink tires that I got on a closeout sale from BikeTiresDirect.com (still selling for $37.95/ea as of 1/16/09)

“Also purchased the Jagwire pink cable kit from the LBS along with some black and pink Specialized bottle cages.

“The floral patterned pink bar tape was on sale at Performance for around $7.99.

“To top it off I picked up a pair of Tifosi Slip sunglasses in metallic pink to go with her Pearl Izumi pink jersey she got for xmas.

“I suppose she’ll be needing a pink helmet of some sort soon too.

“She’s really gonna flip when she gets home this afternoon and finds her all bike is now black & pink!  It’s an early birthday gift (since her actual bday is in Feb.)”

Charlotte wrote to me from the UK about her very “candy” pink bike, Fifi.

“She started life as a 90′s vintage Specialized Stumpjumper. Mario Vaz of South London blasted off the old paint, got a load of useful braze-ons added to the frame and gave her a coat of Candy Pink which the guy in my LBS described as ‘possibly the most sickening colour I have ever seen on a bike.’ I think it was supposed to be a compliment…

“She’s got Mavic wheels with Vredstein S-Licks (pink logos!), a Middleburn triple chainset and Wellgo SPDs. I’ve put on 40cm girlie drops with a pointy-uppy Specialized stem and the rear gears are operated by Ultegra STIs. I’ve added auxiliary levers (which are really cool) and they pull on Oryx Cantilever brakes. The front gears work off of an Ultegra bar end lever and the bars are all wrapped up in Specialized Phat-wrap. Most of the other stuff is Deore. She’s got a very lovely Madison gel saddle (with titanium rails). There’s a Tor-Tek stainless steel rack for my sarnies, SKS mudguards to keep my tootsies dry and a Cateye Mity 8 computer to show me how slow I am.”
